[00:00:00] Today we're discussing a tool that's essential for every author. The book proposal. Now you might be thinking. I'm self publishing. Why do I need a book proposal. A book proposal. Isn't just a pitch to traditional publishers. It's your book's business plan. It's a compass guiding you from concept to launch.
[00:00:23] I'm Zach Kristensen, and this is Beyond the book presented by Juxta book.
[00:00:29]
[00:00:37] So let's break it down. A solid book proposal has three key sections. About the book, about the author, and the launch and marketing plan. For reference the free downloadable juxta book. Perfect book proposal covers these three areas in detail and is available on our website. For today, we'll review each [00:01:00] section at a high level.
[00:01:01] First the, about the book section. It's not just a summary of what your book is about. It's where you define your target audience, identify their needs and explain how your book will meet those needs and how it is different than any other book that is out there. This is your book's mission statement, the problem it aims to solve and how your book will do it.
[00:01:26] Second about the author. This is your chance to shine. You establish your credibility here, explaining why you're the best person to write this book. You showcase your existing author brand or outline the brand you aim to build. The section also includes your current author platform and future plans to grow that platform and your brand.
[00:01:50] And then finally the launch and marketing plan.
[00:01:53] Remember writing the book has only half the battle. In today's competitive market. A [00:02:00] robust marketing strategy is crucial. You can have the best written book that provides the most value to your audience out there but if you don't know how you're going to get in touch and reach your audience. It will fail and fall flat.
[00:02:15] Here in this section, you'll outline the method you'll use to launch and continually market your book. The more specific and detailed, the better.
[00:02:26] In the words of Benjamin Franklin, by failing to prepare, you are preparing to fail. A book proposal is your preparation, your roadmap to success. It provides focus, clarity and direction.
